Duke and Kentucky among early names linked to this star guard

Duke and Kentucky among early names linked to San Diego State guard Lamont Butler, in news first reported by Fox Sports' Aaron Torres.

Among the other schools that have reached out besides Duke and Kentucky are Texas Tech, USC, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Washington among others.

Butler hit the portal Wednesday night and while his numbers don't blow you away (9.3 points and three assists), he did so on a deep San Diego State team where only one player has averaged more than 12 points per game the last two seasons. He was also the starting point guard on last year's Aztec Final Four team, hitting a buzzer beater over Florida Atlantic to send them to the title game. Additionally, he's arguably the best perimeter defender in college hoops, and won Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year this year.

Butler will have one year of eligibility remaining.
