Former Texas Commit Heads to Big 10 as His College Destination

Tamir Bates had committed to Shaka Smart and Texas, but when Smart left Austin for Marquette, it left the door open for Bates to reconsider his college choice.

Bates chose Indiana, announcing it on his Twitter feed Monday morning. A four-star prospect and top 50 recruit, this is a nice addition as Mike Woodson puts his first Hoosier roster together. Bates is a 6-4 shooting guard who played this past season with IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, helping guide them to the GEICO Nationals. Bates played three years of high school at Piper HS in Kansas before transferring to IMG.
